September 30th 2021. The Kong Lab hosted a visit from Prof. Xiaocong Zuo from the Third Xiangya Hospital and Central South University to discuss recent research progress and innovations in combating kidney diseases.
The two teams led by Prof. Deling Kong at Nankai University (3 senior staff with 2 students) and Prof. Zuo from Central South University (1 senior staff, 2 postdocs, and 1 student) discussed their respective research discoveries and interests concerning chronic kidney disease and acute kidney disease. Prof. Zuo's team gave in-depth reports on their work into key molecular switches that are upregulated in kidney disease. Prof. Zuo suggested to combine their team's strengths in basic research and molecular signaling pathways with Prof. Kong's and A/Prof. Adam Midgley's work in the development of kidney-targeting nanocarriers and gene therapies.
The two teams agreed to continue efforts toward a fruitful collaborative effort and will be pursuing a productive working relationship going forward. The meeting took place at the State Key Laboratory of Medicinal Chemical Biology and Comprehensive Lab Hall D of Nankai Univeristy at Jinnan Campus.
